Openoffice.org is a project that has the aim to create an international suite office able to work with the most popular operating systems, allowing accessing all the data by the APIs.
Openoffice.org contains text module processor, excel, vectorial graphics, HTML edition and presentations, that has a great advantage when comparing it with other similar suites, their functions are simple and practical.
We are in front of OpenOffice Portable version reason why, its installation process deserves to be explained properly. This version was developed to be carried out easily in a USB flash device and use it later on any computer. That`s why when installing it we should select the unit where we want to locate the file.

This way, we have had installed OpenOffice Portable in the USB unit having the possibility of run it from any computer just by connection the device without installing this application.
This suite also has the integration of different programs that can be seen in the access of all the assistants it has. This way we can go from any application to File> New, where we can see a menu with different documents that can be created as text documents, excel, presentations, data base, HTML documents, formulas, cards and more.
Once we chose the one we need, OpenOffice will open an assistant that will ask about the most important information to create the document. We will be able then to use the application, take several steps and select many things.

In the same line we mentioned before, we can find the options that appear in the menu File> Wizard. Here, we will find small extra tools that this suite includes whose basic feature is to be displayed as an assistant to allow even the most inexperienced user doing many things like creating letters, fax, presentations, adding contacts, converting Euros, creating a Web page and more.
In each case it would only be necessary to follow the step by step so that at the end of the process we get what we were looking for.

To finish with the general features, and common to all the applications that are part of OpenOffice, we can see some other options that are included in the File menu.
Reload and Versions will allow us to access previous file status, the first one to the original version we have opened, the second one will allow us to go back to the different versions that we have been saving.
About the file exportation, OpenOffice also offers many elements to use, between them, its option to export as PDF (Export as PDF) stands out. Its use is simple and intuitive as we already saw with the other elements that the program has.

Writer

The OpenOffice.Org writer allows carrying out all the advanced text edition options that most of these kinds of programs offer.
Its interface has many menus that are clear and easy when making an operation, it also has an interactive status bar that indicate us the document´s actual forward movements when using it. What´s more, it has a view with multiple panels that provide a fast access to all the available tools at that moment.
Next we will see some of its main functions.

Beginning:

In order to begin to work with a blank document we will click on File, New, Text Document; this will open a new blank page to begin to work with.

Inserting an image to the document:

In order to insert an image in a document we must only click on Insert, then in Picture and to finish on From File.

Changing Language:

In order to change the language we must click on Tools, Language, there we can select the language and the section in which we want it, this can be: in all the text, in a part of the text or in a paragraph.

Tables:

In order to add tables we must click on the Table button, located in the tools bar located at the top of the screen, then we will need to indicate the table's size.

Customizing OpenOffice.org:

In order to personalize the tool bar that is on the top of the Openoffice.org window we will need to click on View then on Toolbars and finally in Customize, there we will be able to set up the buttons that will appear in our tools bar.

Copying the text format:

It could happened that we want to use the format (letter size, alignment, letter, font, style, etc) of another text we have in the document; in this case we must select the text style we want to copy and press on the Paintbrush Format button that is on the tools bar, then we need to highlight with mouse the text to which we want to attach the copied format.

Impress

With the OpenOffice.org Impress option we can make from the most elaborated presentations to a simple slides group. It allows generating presentations in a simple way with the highest standard for companies, businesses or familiar images.
It is compatible with most of the presentations formats and no additional software is needed since it has all the tools type and could be seen in any Operating system.

In order to begin working with a blank document we will need to click on File, New, Presentation; this will offer a new blank page to begin to rig up the presentation.

Seeing Presentations:

In order to see the presentations that have been sent to us by email, or which we have made, we must click on the bar in the Slide Show button, and then on Slide Show again; we can also use the F5 key to begin directly from any location.

Layouts:

The Layouts will allow us to indicate what allocation will have the different objects in each blank template. Within a menu with very simple graphics we will be able to choose the exact template we need for our project.

Calc

This is the Excel that pleased all kind of user. This excel satisfies those beginners that only need simple and fast calculations; but also offers a worthy effectiveness when taking care of the experienced users requirements, with heavy calculations and complex functions evaluations, responding exactly and showing results in short times.

In order to begin working with a blank document we will need to click on File, New, SpreadSheet; this will offer a new blank page to begin to intersect data.

Graphics and schemas:

Calc presents a new graphs generation system through simple and intuitive scientific notation. It will only be necessary to click on the cake graph symbol, located on the top of the bar, and a practical tutorial will guide us during the four necessary steps to obtain the graphic.

The new Openoffice.org excel has support for multiple extensions and platforms calculations; connectivity with wiki's in the Dokuwiki platform through Calc2Dokuwiki, with StarOffice, Microsoft Office, NeoOffice and many more.
